With the new college athletics season set to begin soon, the region’s coaching carousel is continuing to turn with another change at the Division 1 level.
Massachusetts head coach Matt Reynolds (South Boston, Mass.) is leaving his position to become the skipper at Division 3 Wesleyan. The news was confirmed Tuesday morning following a report by D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.
Reynolds, a 2005 UMass graduate and former team captain, completed his eighth season in the dugout in Amherst last spring.
“Having been at UMass as an undergraduate and graduate student, assistant coach and head coach, I can safely say that although I may be leaving UMass, this place will forever be a part of me,” Reynolds said in a statement. “As an alum I am so proud of the trajectory of this institution and that of the Athletic Department. I would like to thank our team, alumni and supporters of the program, coaching staff, support staff, administration, colleagues in the department and everyone involved in UMass Athletics for making my time at UMass such an enjoyable and rewarding experience.”
