5-Star guard Austin Goosby has been one of BYU’s top 2026 targets for awhile now and is set to come to Provo for his official visit. His father confirmed to me that Austin arrives in Utah Friday morning for his official visit, which will carry into the weekend. BYU is scheduled to be Austin’s final official visit after visits over the past couple months to SMU, Miami, Duke, Texas, and Baylor.
This is Austin’s second visit to BYU. He took an unofficial visit in early March and attended the BYU-Utah game and a BYU practice. I spoke with Austin’s dad about that visit back in March, and he raved to me about the Marriott Center environment and the way Kevin Young ran practice. Having recruits attend a BYU football game is often a highlight of the visit since it allows them to see BYU’s fan and passion, but Goosby already attending a BYU basketball game checks that box.
Austin has been climbing recruiting rankings. He is rated a 5-Star recruit by ESPN, and earlier this month 247 Sports updated their rankings and changed his composite ranking to 5 stars. He is rated the #19 player in the class by 247 Sports.
I expect Austin’s recruitment to come down to Texas, Duke, and BYU with Baylor a potential outside darkhorse. Each school has a compelling pitch. Austin is from Texas, his family grew up Longhorns fans, and his older brother, Trevor, is a starting offensive lineman for the Longhorns. Duke has really turned up their pursuit of Goosby and has the allure and prestige of Duke. BYU is pitching KY’s NBA experience, Austin has family in Utah and at BYU, and he is LDS.
This official visit for BYU will be key to give their pitch of how they plan to feature Austin. BYU loses several key wings this offseason, so Austin would have a chance to step in and get key minutes as a freshman. A 6-foot-5 combo guard with a 6-foot-9 wing span, Austin is a high-level athlete who can get the rim and has a great feel for the game. He has the tools to be an elite defender and the skills and athleticism to be an All-Big 12 player in his college career.
