That didn’t take long. The Boston Celtics waived forward Anton Watson to make room to sign forward Miles Norris to a two-way contract this past Sunday. Two days later, the New York Knicks waived forward Jacob Toppin and Matt Ryan to make room to sign Watson to a two-way contract as well as open up another roster spot.
In 21 G-League games with the Maine Celtics this season, Watson has averaged 12.0 points per game on a 42.6 field goal percentage and 30.8 three-point percentage, 5.4 rebounds per game, and 2.1 assists per game.
The 54th pick in 2024 NBA Draft is a versatile threat and has shown glimpses of his improved shooting ability. His defensive prowess and ability to act as a “glue guy” is what made him so special at Gonzaga.
Let’s hope the 6’8 forward can make his NBA debut on the biggest stage that is Madison Square Garden this season. By claiming him off waivers, the Knicks can make him active for the rest of the regular season. If not with the big club, Watson will spend his time with the Westchester Knicks (New York’s G-League affiliate).
