The first weekend in December featured a monstrous slate, resulting in multiple teams making their case to be the best in the nation.
So, which squads took advantage and won the week?
After a record-setting game against Alcorn State during the week, No. 10 Iowa State obliterated No. 1 Purdue 81-58.
The Cyclones silenced the hostile Mackey Arena crowd behind forward Milan Momcilovic’s 20-point performance. Iowa State also shot 48% from beyond the arc and shut down the Boilermakers’ offense, which went 4-for-18 from 3-point range and 6-of-14 from the free-throw line.
The blowout victory snaps Purdue’s 36-game nonconference home winning streak, and it’s tied for the largest home loss by a No. 1 team.
No. 18 Kentucky looked abysmal against No. 11 Gonzaga on Friday night, losing the contest 94-59. It didn’t take long for the boos to rain down from the Wildcat faithful, something that Kentucky players aren’t accustomed to hearing.
