Corey Kispert is at long last out of Washington, D.C., and moving to Atlanta in a blockbuster NBA trade. In the deal, four-time NBA All-Star Trae Young is granted his wish and allowed a new chapter with the Wizards.
The Hawks also received CJ McCollum in the exchange.
This trade was on the immediate horizon after Kispert and McCollum were made unavailable for Washington’s game at Philadelphia on Wednesday, Jan. 7. It actually took place during the middle of the New Orleans at Atlanta matchup while Young was on the bench in street clothes. He was seen saying goodbye to coaches, teammates, and fans mid-game as he left for the locker room.
Since being drafted by the Wizards organization with the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Kispert has never qualified for the postseason in his five-season tenure. The Hawks are in a position to earn a play-in berth as the ninth seed currently.
The all-time Zag has averaged 10.9 points per game on a shooting split of 47.5 field goal percentage/38.3 three-point percentage/80.2 free-throw percentage through 311 career games played. He has also chipped in 2.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
A fresh start like this is exactly what the 26-year-old needs to take his career to the next level.
