Jayson Tatum takes job with CBB team during his recovery

Jayson Tatum will miss most, if not all of the 2025-26 season as he recovers from an Achilles tear. He is finding another way to stay busy beyond his rehab, however.

The Duke Blue Devils announced Tuesday that Tatum is joining the program as chief basketball officer. In the position, Tatum will report to coach Jon Scheyer and assist with player development.

Tatum will have the added free time this season, as he is still recovering from the Achilles tear he suffered during the postseason. While the Boston Celtics star has been rehabbing hard, it remains unclear if he will be able to return at any point this season.

Although he only spent one season at Duke, Tatum has remained close to the program since going pro in 2017. He has even worked at the NBA level to try to help out some of his former teammates since becoming an NBA superstar.

Presumably, Tatum will split time between Durham, North Carolina, and Boston. It remains to be seen if this is a position he will remain involved with once healthy again, but he clearly has a lot of vested interest in his former school.
