Life comes at you fast in college basketball, and no team has learned that better in the young 2025-26 season than Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats.
Pope’s $22 million roster and the memories of a Sweet 16 run in his first season in Lexington brought high expectations from a fan base used to winning.
But through nine games, that $22 million roster has become more of a meme than a blueprint to be followed. The No. 18 Wildcats suffered their fourth loss of the season on Friday in a 94-59 thrashing at the hands of No. 11 Gonzaga.
All four of Kentucky’s losses have come to ranked teams this season, including a loss to in-state rival Louisville and a 83-66 loss to Michigan State. All five of Kentucky’s wins are against Quad 4 opponents.
