Mid-Major Madness Women’s Player of the Week Voting: Nov. 24-30

Feast Week is in the rearview mirror, and several mid-major women’s players feasted on the opposition. There were a bunch of good candidates to be finalists for our player of the week.

So, without further ado, here are the five nominees: Sharnecce Currie-Jelks (Murray State),Kira Reynolds (UT Arlington), Meadow Roland (UNLV), Adrianna Smith (Maine) and Macy Spencer (High Point).

Sharnecce Currie-Jelks (Murray State)

Currie-Jelks had a pair of double-doubles last week to help guide the Racers to a 2-0 week at the Daytona Beach Classic. She averaged 27.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 63% from the field. Her best performance of the week came in an 88-83 win over George Mason in which she posted a career-best 32 points and 11 rebounds. That point total is the most by a Missouri Valley player this season. The Jackson, Tenn., native then had 23 points and 10 rebounds in an 82-77 win over Boston College, which was the program’s first-ever triumph over an ACC opponent. The junior leads the MVC at 20.9 points per game for the season.

Kira Reynolds (UT Arlington)

Reynolds led the Mavericks to a historic win over in-state rival Texas A&M and wins in their final two games of the Hawaii North Shore Showcase. The freshman scored a career-high 22 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as the Mavs won 61-60 for their first W over the Aggies since 1976 and their first victory over an SEC foe since 2006. She hit the game-winning putback at the buzzer to win it.

She also had three blocks and two assists in the contest. The following day, the forward registered eight points, six rebounds and four blocks in UTA’s 61-39 win over VCU. She averaged 15 points, nine boards and 3.5 blocks for the week.

Roland averaged 21 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in a pair of wins for the Lady Rebels. She was efficient shooting the ball as well as she hit 64% of her shots from the field and 44% from deep. The sophomore forward notched a career-high 25 points to go along with 12 rebounds and two assists in a 76-67 win over Creighton. She followed it up with 17 points and five boards in a 62-56 win over Northern Iowa.

Smith demonstrated her statsheet-stuffing abilities by averaging 15.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game last week. She posted the America East’s first triple-double since 2017 with 19 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and four blocks in the Black Bears’ 69-46 win over Saint Francis at the Turkey Tipoff at Iona. It’s the program’s first triple-double since 2015. The previous day, the redshirt senior notched 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a 64-54 loss to UIC.

Macy Spencer (High Point)

Spencer averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and two assists over two wins on her way MVP honors of the Big Easy Classic. She shot 46% from the field and 46% from 3-point land. The Katy, Texas, native netted a career-high 31 points while shooting 9-of-17 from downtown in a 77-62 win over Louisiana. Her nine triples were one shy of tying the Big South record. Six of her trifectas came in the first quarter. She added five rebounds and four assists. The junior guard recorded a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double with two blocks in HPU’s 70-59 win over Charleston, which was the Cougars’ first loss of the season.
