There are just eight teams remaining in the NIT, and SEVEN of them are mid-majors. Plus, the group includes Auburn, a major conference team who was mid.
As we get set for the quarterfinals tonight and tomorrow, we want to know: who you think will win it all?
Wichita State, Tulsa, Saint Joseph’s, New Mexico, Illinois State, Dayton, Nevada or Auburn.

Three of the four No. 1 seeds and two of the two-seeds are still alive. Add in a three- and four-seed. Saint Joe’s is the only remaining team who is not a top-four seed.
Tulsa is top seed in the lower right-hand quadrant and has picked up wins over Stephen F. Austin and UNLV to reach tonight’s matchup with Wichita State.
The Shockers have been on fire this postseason. They went all the way to the American Conference championship game before falling to South Florida. That loss put them into the NIT field, where they defeated Wyoming before blowing out Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla.
New Mexico has rolled to this point. The top-seed in the top right region of the bracket earned a 24-point win over Sam Houston in round one and a 25-point victory over George Washington. Both of these games were at The Pit, and tonight will be the Lobos’ final game in Albuquerque before the semifinals and final in Indianapolis.
UNM will match up against Saint Joseph’s in the quarterfinals. The unseeded Hawks have been road warriors this tournament. They won at Colorado State in the first round and at Cal by a single point in the second round.
Illinois State knocked off Kent State in the first round at home and then went on the road and picked off the only one seed to be bounced so far. The Redbirds defeated Wake Forest by three in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Sunday.
Now, they’ll visit Dayton tomorrow night in the quarterfinals. The second-seeded Flyers are playing their first game at home because of the NCAA Tournament at UD Arena. They won at Bradley and at UNCW and scored 80 points in each win.
Nevada gives us a second Mountain West team in the final eight. The WolfPack earned double-digit wins over Murray State and Liberty at home but now hit the road for the first time in the NIT. They’ll take on top-seed Auburn, who has beaten South Alabama and Seattle U.
The semifinals are April 2, and the championship is April 5.
