A top college basketball player is looking to cash in through an NIL deal during the transfer period.
PJ Haggerty was the AAC Player of the Year while with Memphis last season. The former Tigers guard has entered the transfer portal and is seeking $4 million in NIL money, according to reporter Jeff Goodman.
Though college sports is still considered to be amateurs, Haggerty’s career path sure would indicate otherwise.
Haggerty began his college career at TCU in 2022-2023. He then played the following season at Tulsa and averaged 21.2 points per game. Last season, he averaged 21.7 points per game with Memphis. For those keeping track, this would be his fourth school in four seasons.
Perhaps the $4 million figure is an asking price and place where negotiations would begin. Then again, someone who was an All-American and averaged over 20 points per game would certainly be likely to receive a 7-figure deal.
We’re now starting to see college players get $4 million to remain in school rather than head to the pros. Haggerty could be the next in line to get that deal.
