Top 30 2026 Recruit Schedules BYU Official Visit originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

BYU Lands Major Official Visit from 2026 4-Star Austin Goosby

If you’re a BYU basketball fan, mark your calendars: September 26–28 could be one of the most pivotal weekends in recent recruiting memory.

Austin Goosby, the No. 30 overall recruit in the 2026 class according to 247Sports and the highest-rated LDS basketball prospect in the nation, has locked in an official visit to BYU. That news alone is enough to stir excitement in Provo, but it’s the why behind his interest that truly matters.

A Family Connection That Runs Deep

Goosby may live in the Dallas area, but the ties to BYU are real. His mother’s side of the family lives in Utah. One cousin is currently enrolled at BYU, while another began their college journey in Provo before departing on a mission. Those connections aren’t just casual, they matter in recruiting circles, especially for high-character, faith-driven athletes like Goosby.

He already took an unofficial visit to BYU in March, attending the emotionally charged BYU-Utah rivalry game inside the Marriott Center. That visit left an impression. Austin’s father spoke with Robby McCombs of Vanquish The Foe.

“Kevin Young is a basketball genius; it’s a whole other level of intelligence,” Goosby’s father said following the trip. “We were blown away by Coach Young and BYU.”

Kevin Young: The X-Factor

New BYU head coach Kevin Young is quietly assembling what could be one of the most competitive recruiting classes in Cougar basketball history. His NBA pedigree, elite player development acumen, and consistent communication with top recruits have made BYU a serious contender in races few expected them to be in.

According to McCombs, Goosby is “arguably the best LDS prospect in the country,” and pointed out how Young’s relentless approach has positioned BYU as a real player despite blueblood competition.

It’s not just talk either, as BYU has made Goosby a top priority in the 2026 cycle. And Goosby has taken notice.

The Recruiting Landscape

Goosby isn’t short on options. He’s holding offers from Duke, Texas, Kansas, Baylor, Texas A&M, UCLA, Oklahoma, and Miami. Goosby has a virtual who’s who of college basketball. Texas, in particular, looms large. His brother, Trevor Goosby, is an offensive lineman for the Longhorns, and the family has deep UT roots.

But BYU is holding its own, and the scheduled visit shows it.

In a recruiting world dominated by NIL, national exposure, and blueblood pressure, the fact that BYU is hosting a top-30 recruit with major offers speaks volumes about the direction of the program under Kevin Young.

A Visit That Could Shift the Landscape

If BYU fans weren’t already dialed into the Austin Goosby sweepstakes, now is the time. This September visit is more than a courtesy trip, it’s a statement that the Cougars are firmly in the mix for one of the top guards in the country.

For Cougar Nation, the message is clear: this is not your typical BYU recruiting cycle. It’s bigger, bolder, and led by a head coach with NBA ambition and high-major energy.

All eyes on Provo this fall.
