We’ve heard the rumors for over a month now. The 2025-26 Virginia Tech Hokies’ men’s basketball team could land a difference-making recruit. Neoklis “Neo” Avdalas, a 6-foot-8 forward/guard from Athens, Greece, visited Blacksburg in May.
Last week, it was reported that Avdalas had committed to Virginia Tech — if he removed his name from the 2025 NBA draft. On Monday, Avdalas removed his name, and the Hokies revealed he’d signed with them.
When you land a player like Avdalas, who many believe is a future NBA lottery pick, potentially next year, it’s OK to boast on social media. That’s what the Hokies did.
Assistant head coach Chester Frazier, who has already made a massive impact since returning to Blacksburg, had some advice for Hokie Nation.
Here’s what head coach Mike Young said about landing Avdalas:
“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Neo to the Virginia Tech family,” Young said. “This is a huge addition for our program. Neo is a highly sought-after talent with tremendous upside. His versatility is off the charts; he can impact the game in a variety of ways and is a three-level scorer.”
Excited yet?
No one can predict the future. The best-case scenario for Avdalas is that he makes an immediate impact, leads the Hokies on a deep NCAA Tournament and turns pro, where he is a lottery pick. Young and the Hokies would take that scenario in a heartbeat.
Hokie Nation deserved some good news. Celebrate accordingly and fill up Cassell Coliseum next season to support both basketball squads.
