West Virginia basketball transfer portal tracker

The transfer portal has become a hot topic across the realm of college basketball and that has been no different at West Virginia.

The transfer portal is essentially a database that allows other schools to contact them regarding a transfer, and WVSports.com will track it. It’s important to note that because a player is listed in the portal does not mean that they have to transfer out of the program, just that schools can contact them.

Here is a list of the Mountaineers that are currently in the portal exploring the possibility to transfer as well as who has transferred into the program and what it could mean to the current West Virginia basketball team.

For the purpose of this we will focus mainly on scholarship basketball players.

TRANSFERRED TO WEST VIRGINIA:

Eaglestaff was initially committed to South Carolina over a long list of options but elected to open his recruitment. One of the nation’s top scorers, Eaglestaff spent three years at North Dakota where showed significant improvement in each of those seasons including averaging 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists as a true freshman where he shot 39.8-percent from the floor and 34.5-percent from three. As a sophomore, Eaglestaff was elevated to a starting role and averaged 14.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists while shooting 43.4-percent and 38.3-percent from deep. This past season was Eaglestaff’s most productive at the college level after averaging 18.9 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 41.6-percent from the floor and 35.9-percent from three. Visited West Virginia April 19 and committed to the program at the conclusion of that trip. The North Dakota native has one year remaining.

Moore spent last season with St. Bonaventure where he averaged 13.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.3 steals per contest while starting all but one game. Prior to that he was at Missouri State where he started 20 of 31 games and averaged 10.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in nearly 27 minutes per contest during the 2023-24 season. The Georgia native started his career at Arkansas where he appeared in just five games. A long versatile wing, Moore displays the ability to take the ball to score at the rim as well as being a plus rebounder and defender with versatility. Moore has one season of eligibility remaining in his career after committing to the Mountaineers following a visit.

Floyd started his career at Northwest Florida State College and then moved to Hillsborough College where he was voted a team captain. Floyd started all 26 games and averaged 14.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists. The Maryland native then moved to Fairfield where he started 35 of 37 games and averaged 9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game and had a +2.0 assist/turnover ratio. Floyd then moved to North Texas where he has started all 35 games and averaged 8.8 points, 3.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 42-percent from the field and 34-percent from three. Has experience in Hodge’s system makes him a natural fit for the program on both ends of the floor after committing to the Mountaineers. Floyd has one season of eligibility remaining in his college career.

Fields spent three seasons at Troy where he saw his production increase in each of those campaigns. After averaging 3.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game as a freshman those totals jumped to 6.5 points and 4.4 rebounds as a sophomore. Fields is coming off a season where he averaged 7.9 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 48.7-percent from the field and 33.3–percent from three on 63 attempts. The Texas native is an athletic forward that is effective rolling or cutting to the rim as well as being an effective spot up and pick and pop option from three. Fields has one year remaining.

Huff started his career at VMI where he averaged 10.0 points per game and then elected to transfer. After sitting out to due to Southern Conference intra-conference transfer rules the New York native averaged 17.4 points in the first season and then averaged 15.2 this past season while shooting 42-percent from the field and 41-percent from three. Huff made 131 total three-pointers making him one of the nation’s best in that department. He also averaged 2.3 assists and 1.8 rebounds. Huff committed to the Mountaineers over a final five that also included Pittsburgh, St. John’s, Iowa and Vanderbilt and will have one season of eligibility remaining.

Lorient played under Hodge last season with the Mean Green where he was voted first-team all-American Athletic Conference and was named the Sixth Man of the Year in the league. Lorient averaged 11.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and over 1.1 blocks per game across 24.8 minutes per game. He shot 57-percent from the field. The Florida native then elected to enter the transfer portal with a no-contact designation and followed Hodge to Morgantown for his final year of eligibility. Prior to his time at North Texas, Lorient spent two years at Florida Atlantic and is an athletic forward that already exceled in Hodge’s system on both ends of the floor.

Obioha averaged 9.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and shot 63-percent from the field this past season while starting 23 games for UNC Wilmington. Prior to that, Obioha was at Niagara where he averaged 2.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in the first season in just over 9 minutes per game before those numbers saw a stark increase. As a sophomore, Obioha averaged 10.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game before moving onto UNC Wilmington for a season.
