Miami Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal went into the transfer portal to bring Carson Beck from Georgia back to Florida for a reason.
Miami is 5-0 and ranked No. 2 in the nation behind only Ohio State, and there’s reason to believe that the Hurricanes are really the best team in college football thanks to their wins over No. 6 Notre Dame, No. 18 South Florida and No. 18 Florida State.
In the meantime, Beck is currently the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. According to BetMGM, Beck is the favorite at +500, while Oregon’s Dante Moore (+700) and Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith (+800) are No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Not only is Beck leading the Hurricanes to big wins, but he clearly has a voice in the locker room and the trust of his teammates.
Case in point? Miami picked up one of the biggest wins of the Cristobal era this past weekend by beating Florida State, and Beck’s message after the game was that the team still had work to do.
“I’m sure we’re going to go back and watch this game and there’s just so many little things, little mistakes, little plays that are just left out there for grabs when we give them something or we give up something ourselves,” Beck said, according to The Associated Press (via Fox Sports). “And I just think if we can eliminate those mistakes and stop shooting ourselves in the foot sometimes that we could be really dangerous and really, really good.”
Miami is already “really dangerous” and “really, really good.”
Imagine what the Hurricanes will look like if they continue to follow their leader and focus on improvement rather than simply coast and celebrate the good season as it happens. This is a team that can win it all, and the Hurricanes have the perfect quarterback in Beck to lead them up the mountainside.
Through five games, he’s thrown for 1,213 yards and 11 touchdowns against three interceptions. His QBR of 84.4 is 10th-best in all of college football.
Beck was a proven winner during his time at Georgia
Beck spent the first five seasons of his college career with the Bulldogs. He backed up Stetson Bennett and became a two-time national champion while holding a clipboard for UGA.
When he got his chance to be the starter, all Beck did was go 24-3 over two seasons while throwing for 7,912 yards and 58 touchdowns.
That’s the type of quarterback you get to put you over the top if you’re a coach like Cristobal, who is trying to get Miami back into the national spotlight.
So far, it’s worked out well for both parties.
