Kavian Bryant is a 4-star recruit for the 2027 class who has his shortlist down to four schools. Texas Longhorns, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Florida State Seminoles and the Colorado Buffaloes. According to Sports Illustrated, Colorado is still very much in play for Bryant.
Bryant is the No. 29 recruit and the No. 2 quarterback in the country. The Palestine Texas product is 6’2, 180 pounds and a legitimate dual threat prospect at the position. Over his last two high school seasons, Bryant has exceeded 5,000 yards, 67 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions passing as well as 1,600 yards rushing and an additional 23 touchdowns on the ground.
Bryant has made official visits to each of his finalists. On September 27th Bryant was seen observing pregame warm up with Deion Sanders ahead of their 24-21 loss to BYU. If Sanders is to pull his annual shocking commit or flip with Bryant, it would be considered a huge win given how the Buffaloes season has gone this year.

Sanders has a habit of pulling off one major recruiting win viewed as substantially more significant that all the others. In 2023 it was bringing Travis Hunter from Jackson State or landing current Florida Gator CB Cormani McClain. In 2024 it was 5-star left tackle Jordan Seaton. In 2025 it was QB Julian Lewis, flipped from USC.
Bryant’s father Kadrian provided some insight on the decision
“He feels comfortable about the schools. They all offered really good things, and one of the good things they offer is a pathway to the field,” Bryant’s father told Rivals. “It’s been a tight race between four schools. He’s been juggling different things towards me and I’ve been throwing things at him.”
While all four schools seem to be in a relative dead heat going into Bryant’s final decision, his father revealed that the Prime Effect is a major contributing factor. The elder Bryant spoke of the entirety of Deion Sanders. Not only the player and coach, but the father as well.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of Deion Sanders coming up. He has a huge resume, but for me, what sticks out is his resume as a father. I can kind of relate to him raising his boys that way,” Bryant’s father continued. “He knows a lot of what I’m going through, and hearing him give advice from a father’s perspective was great.”
In addition to the fatherly aspects Kadrian appreciates is the on field aspect. According to Bryant’s father, all four schools have presented a “path to play”.
The Julian Lewis sized elephant in the room
The best factor for Colorado if they were to land Bryant is the same reason Bryant picking Colorado might be a long shot. Julian “Juju” Lewis was the recruiting prize of last year’s cycle for Colorado.
The public believed Lewis would be the 2025 starter until Sanders brought in Kaidon Salter. Heading into November, Lewis has seen very little game action. Whether its development related or preserving his red shirt status, Lewis could be the largest road block to Bryant choosing Colorado.
If Bryant were to choose Colorado and Lewis remained on the roster, it would constitute the best QB room/situation in Sanders’ time in Boulder. Two four-star QBs in the room would be a huge recruiting win, but that would also be very unlikely.
Sanders has blueprint to his version of recruiting. A major staple of that is recruiting high school players with the intention of them contributing right away. As opposed to building a stable of high school players to develop who likely won’t play until year two or three.
The Buffaloes under Prime also like pairing brothers. Starting with Shedeur and Shilo, but also including both Salter brothers, the Mathis brothers, Destin and Keaton Wade last year (Keaton is still on the team), and LaJohntay and Jaylen Wester from the 2024 team. On October 14th, Kaden Bryant (Kavian’s brother) tweeted that he had received an offer letter from Colorado.
