Just because the spring is over for the Oregon Ducks football team, it doesn’t mean the work of getting better and preparing for the upcoming season stops.
According to Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, players and coaches will be plenty busy before fall camp starts up in August. On Saturday after the Ducks’ spring game, Lanning broke down what the future months look like in Eugene.
“Our coaches will be going on the road in May for recruiting. We’ll do some exit meetings with our players so we can identify new growth areas for us post-spring,” he said. “What are the things that we need to attack to improve on, you know, continue to develop and get those guys strong in the weight room, and take advantage of that and really attack the classroom as well.
“So a lot of things are going on. We’re coming into the summer window, where we’ll have camps where we can go evaluate guys as well.”
A lot of improvement occurs during this time when only those in the program are watching. Weights change, both up and down, and quarterbacks develop chemistry with the receivers and tight ends on and off the field. This is where a lot of the overall team chemistry happens. When a team says it’s a close-knit group, it starts and ends at times like these, when players do things as off the field as on.
The proof will be in the pudding as quickly as fall camp and beyond.
