ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI), the network’s advanced analytics model, now gives No. 10 Alabama a 60.9% probability of earning a spot in the College Football Playoff. That’s a notable jump and reflects how the Tide have steadily rebuilt their résumé as the regular season winds down.
Despite facing a lighter Week 13 opponent in Eastern Illinois, a game Alabama dominated 56-0 behind eight rushing touchdowns, the computers seemed to be slightly encouraged and maybe even impressed by what they saw.
Similarly, Georgia dispatched Charlotte 35-3, but the newest FPI update still favored Alabama’s overall trajectory. The Tide climbed back into the top five, sliding ahead of the Bulldogs in the model’s rankings.
The updated FPI top 25 following Week 13 looks like this:

It’s important to remember what the FPI actually measures.
ESPN’s model is designed to evaluate the overall strength and efficiency of each team and to forecast how they are likely to perform for the remainder of the year, not reward past accomplishments or mimic the human playoff committee.
It takes into account efficiency metrics, opponent strength, and projected performance, which explains why the rankings can look different from traditional polls.
For Alabama, the implications are clear: the Iron Bowl isn’t just about bragging rights, it’s a chance to validate the analytics and take another major step toward a playoff return.

With their postseason hopes very much alive, the Tide enter Jordan-Hare Stadium with momentum, belief, and everything still in front of them.
Now, it’s up to the Crimson Tide to take matters into their own hands and get a MUCH needed road win on Saturday against Auburn.
