You never want to lose a game when you’ve got a top recruit that you’re trying to flip in town for an official visit. The Oklahoma Sooners’ loss to the Ole Miss Rebels mattered not in that regard, though.
At least that’s true in the case of four-star wide receiver Jashiear Rogers, who was in Norman for Oklahoma’s 34-26 loss to Ole Miss but still ended up flipping his commitment from the Penn State Nittany Lions to the Sooners afterward.
Rogers is from Middletown, Delaware, so he’s an east coast kid. The vibe and atmosphere of Norman really won him over, though.
“Oklahoma is just a place built for football players,” Rogers said, according to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals. “It’s a football town. Out there, you’re going to be focused and ready to go every day.”
Oklahoma flips four-star wide receiver from Penn State
Rogers had been committed to Penn State since July 2024, which is an eternity in today’s college football recruiting environment. Penn State recently fired head coach James Franklin, though, and that uncertainty at the head coaching position caused Rogers to start looking around.
Alabama and Nebraska were also in the running for his commitment, but Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables, wideouts coach Emmett Jones and director of player personnel Stacey Ford really sealed the deal for the Sooners.
“Coach Stacey was a big impact and coach Jones,” Rogers said. “It wasn’t a day they missed a call. It started to click the first time I got the call from coach Stacey. He made me feel welcomed and already on the team.”
Rogers is Oklahoma’s 22nd 2026 commitment. He’s ranked as the No. 52 wide receiver in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
