The Ole Miss Rebels are tickled pink that quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is going to be able to play in 2026.
Of course, there could be a few more legal machinations in play as the NCAA doesn’t want to give up this eligibility case without a fight. In the meantime, though, Chambliss has been granted a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, giving him an additional year of eligibility.
His case was that he should be retroactively granted a medical redshirt for his 2022 season at Ferris State. He didn’t play that season because of respiratory issues due to tonsillitis, but he had already taken a traditional redshirt in 2021.
The NCAA is going to fight it, but right now, this preliminary injunction gives Chambliss the ability to play for Ole Miss in 2026.
“We are excited for Trinidad and grateful to Judge Whitwell for making the right decisions today,” the university said in a statement. “We appreciate the thoughtful consideration given to this matter and for the court’s recognition of the circumstances surrounding Trinidad’s case. We believe this outcome affirms what we have maintained throughout this process that Trinidad deserves the opportunity to compete and complete his collegiate career on the field.”
