The Tennessee Volunteers have secured their first commitment for the class of 2027, and this recruit has major ties to the program.
JP Peace is a three-star linebacker from Knoxville, Tennessee (Knoxville West High School). Peace, who checks in at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, is the grandson of a legendary Volunteer, Phillip Fulmer.
He committed to Tennessee on Monday in a move that was seemingly a no-brainer.
“Naturally, Tennessee was the leading school for him,” his father, Robert Peace, told ESPN. “We encouraged him to visit other places and he did that. But Tennessee was the place for him and not just because of the family legacy here.”
Fulmer played at Tennessee on the offensive line from 1968-1971. He later became head coach of the Volunteers starting in 1992, and he led the program to a 1998 BCS national championship win.
Fulmer coached Tennessee from 1992-2008 and went 152-52 while winning the SEC East six times. He was then the Vols’ athletic director from 2017-2021.
Robert Peace was a linebacker himself at Tennessee from 2000-2003. He married one of Fulmer’s daughters in 2008, and now JP is following the family legacy.
They’re Volunteers through and through.
“He’s obviously spent a lot more time around the program than most kids have,” the elder Peace told ESPN.
247Sports ranks Peace as the No. 27 linebacker in the 2027 class.
Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina, NC State, South Carolina and SMU, amongst others, were also in on Peace’s recruitment, but they never really stood a chance.
