Texas Football Preview 2025: Longhorns Season Prediction, Win Total Projection, Top Players originally appeared on College Football News.
Texas Longhorns Key to the Season
Clean it all up.Texas is so talented and so good that it can win it all. It has to start doing all of the little things right to go along with all the firepower and production. The nine penalties and two turnovers against Ohio State mattered. The line allowed way too many tackles for loss last year, and now just one starter is back. There were too many interceptions, a few key special teams breakdowns, way too many fumbles, and just enough penalties to be annoying.Throw in the problems in the red zone – scoring fewer than 80% of the time, including an all-time empty trip against the Buckeyes – and all of the parts have to be a bit tighter.

Texas Longhorns Key Player
Cole Hutson, C Sr.Texas has been a powerhouse at center over the last several seasons, helped by Jake Majors locking down the gig since what seemed like the Fred Akers era. Hutson has the 6-5, 306-pound size, and he has the maturity, but he has to be a great leader for a rebuilding front.
Texas Longhorns Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss
Top Transfer In: Maraad Watson, DT Soph.Cole Brevard from Purdue and Travis Shaw from North Carolina will make more of an immediate impact, but Watson is the potential star NFL prospect of the bunch. He’s still young, he’s still getting stronger, but the former Syracuse anchor has all the talent to be special with a little more time.Top Transfer Out: Amari Niblack, TE Sr.The Longhorns didn’t lose anyone major through the portal, and there are more than solid at tight end with Jack Andries coming in from Cal, to go along with a few huge options in place. However, Niblack has the prototype tools to be special. The former top prospect for Alabama didn’t get much work last year for Texas, and now he should be a big part of the Texas A&M attack.
Texas Longhorns Key Game
at Ohio State, Aug 30Texas had to go to Michigan last year to face the defending national champion. It won a 31-12 breather and went on to have a monster season. The 2023 team went to Alabama, won, and ended up in the four-team CFP. The 2005 team beat Ohio State in a Week 2 thriller and went on to win the national title. It’s Texas vs Ohio State. Texas Longhorns 2025 Season Prediction, Win Total, What Will Happen
Walking into the College Football Playoff isn’t any sort of a given with this schedule. What do we know about the CFP? You win 11 games or more as a Power Four program, and you’re in. You win ten or more, and you’re almost certainly in if you’re from the Big Ten or SEC.There are three losses on this Texas slate, and none of them would be shocking.
The Longhorns have to go to Ohio State to start the season, play Georgia on the road in mid-November, and along the way, there are road games at Florida and Kentucky, and a dangerous home date at Texas A&M.And there’s that date with Oklahoma as part of a brutal run from the end of September until early November without a home game.
But talent-wise, this is one of the best teams in America, it should at least split those monster road games against the Buckeyes and Bulldogs, and without having to play Alabama, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Auburn, it’ll be in the SEC title game again. It’ll get back to the College Football Playoff, but it’ll do it with two losses.Set The Texas Win Total At … 9.5Likely Wins: at Mississippi State, Sam Houston, San Jose State, UTEP, Vanderbilt50/50 Games: Arkansas, at Florida, at Georgia, at Kentucky, at Ohio State, Oklahoma (in Dallas), Texas A&MLikely Losses: No Sure-Thing Projected Losses 2025 Texas PreviewTexas Offense BreakdownTexas Defense Breakdown
