The Texas Longhorns locked up a notable player via the transfer portal on Friday.
Texas has secured a commitment from former Cal Golden Bears tight end Jack Endries. Endries was the Golden Bears’ leading receiver last season. He had 56 catches for 623 yards and 2 touchdowns during his redshirt sophomore season. Both the amount of catches and yards led Cal.
Not only did Cal lose Endries, but they also lost quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who transferred to Indiana after last season. They have a lot of quality players to replace.
Texas is coming off a 13-3 season that saw them reach the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row. Their tight end Gunnar Helm had 60 catches for 786 yards and 7 touchdowns, so Endries should step in to fill that role. In addition to Helm, the Longhorns are losing Matthew Golden, Isaiah Bond and Silas Bolden to the NFL Draft. Endries should be able to step in and produce right away for Texas.
By making the move from Cal to Texas, Endries will be going from the ACC to the SEC. It wasn’t that long ago where such a transfer would have meant going from the Pac-12 to the Big 12.
