UNC football wearing classic blue/white combo in Week 3 vs Richmond

The Tar Heels will suit up for Week 3 against Richmond wearing Carolina blue and white classic uniforms.

North Carolina will take the field at Kenan Stadium for Week 3 of the college football season, facing the Richmond Spiders from the Patriot League on Saturday, September 13th. After two different uniform combinations through the first two weeks of the season, UNC football will turn to the classic, Carolina blue helmet, Carolina blue jersey, and white pants at home.

In the previous two weeks, the Tar Heels’ football has been a roller coaster of emotions. The team was routed on the opening weekend of the season on Monday Night Football on national television against a Big 12 Conference opponent in Bill Belichick’s first game. That 48-14 loss was a reality check to many who thought the team was destined for the College Football Playoffs.

They bounced back against a much more palatable opponent in Week 2, heading on the road to face Charlotte. Despite going head-to-head with ex-quarterback Conner Harrell, North Carolina, under the head of Gio Lopez on offense, dropped 20 points in a routing of its own, beating the Miners 20-3.

This opponent this weekend gets a little weaker than that of even Charlotte. Richmond is 1-1 as it travels to Chapel Hill, having lost its opening game of the year, 21-14, against Lehigh. The Spiders also bounced back in Week 2, taking down the Wofford Terriers on the road by just four points.

Despite the weakness of the proposed opponent, this is an opportunity for North Carolina to showcase increased ability to protect the ball, rally on third down (both on the offensive and defensive sides), and work the ball around the offense. However they decide to go about winning this game, they will do so in style in the classic uniform combination.
