The College Football Playoff rankings have essentially solidified Texas A&M as a guaranteed playoff contender, barring a major collapse. While these are just the initial rankings, some publications still believe the Aggies may not be one of the four teams to earn a first-round bye—and that’s a fair assessment.
A&M just wrapped up its final break of the regular season and now has a prime opportunity to secure a spot in both the SEC Championship and a top-four CFP ranking.
Although the schedule is favorable, three of the four remaining games will be tough battles against hungry SEC opponents. Missouri will rally behind its true freshman quarterback, South Carolina will aim to play spoiler, and Texas will likely need to defeat Texas A&M to punch its ticket to the CFP.
So, as you can see, the Aggies have their work cut out for them. The only guaranteed win on the schedule appears to be Samford, which should be a blowout at Kyle Field before A&M heads to Austin to face the Longhorns in the regular-season finale. Based on what we know right now, A&M is in a strong position—at minimum—to make the playoffs, and that remains the ultimate goal in year two under Mike Elko.

Texas A&M vs South Florida
Another intriguing matchup. On paper, A&M should dominate, but South Florida has shown it can compete with top-tier programs. This game carries upset potential, and with no prior meetings between the teams, the winner would earn inaugural bragging rights.

Texas A&M vs Georgia
Surprisingly, this would be only the second meeting between these programs since A&M joined the SEC. Aggie fans have long awaited a matchup with Georgia, and thanks to revamped conference scheduling, these teams will meet more frequently moving forward. If they clash this season, it’s only fitting that it happens on the CFP stage.

Had Jimbo Fisher still been in charge, this might’ve been hyped as the game of the century. While recent matchups have been sparse, A&M leads the series 9–4, though they’ve dropped the last three contests.
