A quarterback change may be looming for Auburn amid a four-game slide to begin conference play.
Despite being winless in the SEC, three of the Tigers’ four losses have been decided by a touchdown or less. The Auburn offense has struggled to find consistency over the past month, failing to score 20 or more points since its victory over South Alabama on Sept. 13.
This comes as a head-scratcher, as the Tigers have several playmakers such as Eric Singleton Jr., the No. 1-ranked player in the transfer portal last season, and highly touted receivers Cam Coleman, Perry Thompson and Malcolm Simmons. The Tigers have struggled to get the ball to their playmakers, ranking near the bottom of the conference in total passing yards and passing yards per game.
Auburn HC Hugh Freeze facing pressure of reaching bowl game
The pressure is on head coach Hugh Freeze to produce results, as he stated in May that he needed to make a bowl game to meet the high expectations of Auburn. Winning close games could be what makes or breaks the Tigers’ season moving forward.
Freeze stated in a recent news conference that he will evaluate the quarterback position, but he was not fully committed to sitting starter Jackson Arnold just yet.
“If you go watch the game — it’s really hard to complain about Jackson in the first half of the last two games — we’ve got to find that consistency throughout the game or we’ve got to go find a spark,” Freeze said.
