Tua Tagovailoa’s younger brother Taulia Tagovailoa has been keeping his professional football dream alive. But it looks like he’ll have to keep that dream alive outside of the borders of the United States.
On Thursday, the European League of Football – a pro football league in Europe – announced that the Hamburg Sea Devils have signed Tagovailoa to a deal. Hamburg had the third-worst record in the league last season, going just 2-10 and started the season off pretty rough with a 13-12 loss to the Madrid Bravos.
Tagovailoa was released by the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats just two weeks ago. Last year he threw just one pass for the team.

Football fans were pretty excited for the Sea Devils, if not Tagovailoa himself. Many feel that Tagovailoa is a good signing for the team and that Tagovailoa might be ready to play in the United States next year if he plays well enough.
“Good. He can ball out and stay active. Will see him in the UFL next year hopefully,” one user replied.
“Spring Football in Europe just got a bit more interesting. Big move for the @SeaDevilsHH of the @ELF_Official @SpringFBnews #football #spring,” wrote another.
“Idk how he didn’t end up on a UFL roster this season!” a third declared.
“Looks like Taulia Tagovailoa is taking his talents to the ELF. Wow! #ELF.”

Despite being the brother of Tua Tagovailoa, Taulia didn’t enjoy nearly as much success as his older brother in college. He spent one year at Alabama before transferring to Maryland, where he became the school’s all-time leading passer.
Taulia shattered the school records for passing yards, passing touchdowns, total offense and total touchdowns during his four years at the program. He finished his career as the Big Ten’s all-time leader in passing yards to boot.
But a 22-18 record at Maryland didn’t really impress NFL scouts and he went undrafted and unsigned in 2024. He spent the aforementioned year in the Canadian Football League.
We haven’t seen many stories of players going from the European League of Football to the NFL since the league’s debut in 2021. But Taulia can at least continue developing if he gets playing time there.
