The Texas Tech Red Raiders smashed Oklahoma State on Saturday 42-0 on Saturday in Lubbock. And while back up quarterback Will Hammond got the start, after the win, head coach Joey McGuire provided some insight into what the health status is of starter Behren Morton.
McGuire said after the win that Morton, “would have been able to start” on Saturday. “If it was a competitive game, then he would have been able to go in,” McGuire added.
As for Hammond, he finished 9/15 for 102 passing yards and one passing touchdown. But Hammond left the game with a knee injury, which McGuire said after the game they will know more about following an MRI.
That led to Mitch Griffis getting the bulk of the reps to wrap the game, finishing 9/13 for 172 yards and one touchdown. The game began on the best note possible for the Red Raiders, with J’Koby Williams taking it 99 yards to the house on a kick off return as the Red Raiders took a 7-0 lead. The Red Raiders had a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. And the defense was dominant as well. Oklahoma State’s longest drive of the game was 36 yards. It was Texas Tech’s first Big 12 home shutout since beating Baylor 28-0 back in 2005.
The Red Raiders now head to Manhattan to take on a rapidly-improving Kansas State team, with the expectations that Behren Morton will be back under center next week.
