The Kentucky Wildcats have lost the commitment of a quarterback recruit they’ve been connected to for almost a year.
That’s an eternity in today’s college football recruiting landscape, so it’s more than notable that 2027 quarterback DJ Hunter has decided to decommit from Kentucky.
Hunter is a 3-star quarterback from Buford, Georgia. He had committed under former Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops, and his commitment held through the first few months of the Will Stein era.
It was that coaching change that ultimately may have tipped Hunter away from the Wildcats, though.
“After consideration, my family and I felt it was in my best interest to go ahead and decommit and fully open my recruitment back up,” Hunter told Chad Simmons of Rivals. “It’s been in the back of my mind ever since the head coaching change went down. After this weekend, [it] just felt like the right time to do it.”
