Penn State and Rutgers close out the regular season wiht hopes of playing one more game on the line. Penn State comes into the final game of the regular season as a solid road favorite and winners of two straight games after ending its season and program-altering six-game losing streak. Interim head coach Terry Smith will get a chance to even his interim coaching record as he hopes to build his case for keeping the job permanently.
What is at stake for Penn State and Rutgers on Saturday is a secured spot in a postseason bowl game. Penn State may have been looking for a national championship at the start of the season but the Nittany Lions are simply fighting for a spot in a bowl game at this point during a state of transition for the program. Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano is also looking for his 100th career win at Rutgers. A win for either team will clinch bowl eligibility, while the losing team will start preparing for 2026 a little early.
