LSU football coach Brian Kelly’s future is up in the air.
According to a report from Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger, LSU administrators and executives are holding “high-level discussions” about Kelly’s job status.
The news comes a day after Kelly’s LSU squad fell 49-25 to Texas A&M in Tiger Stadium. The loss marked LSU’s third in four games as the Tigers are now 5-3 and out of the College Football Playoff discussion. LSU began the year ranked in the top 10 with hopes to compete for the SEC title. After a Week 1 win over Clemson, LSU looked to be trending in that direction.
But conference play has been a different story. LSU’s offense has failed to establish any rhythm. LSU hasn’t played complementary football, as the defense has also struggled against the best offenses in the SEC.
If LSU does decide to move on from Kelly, the price is hefty. The buyout is reportedly north of $50 million, making it one of the biggest buyouts in the sport.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos, LSU position coaches have been sent home from the facility.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel added that LSU’s process has included outreach to Kelly.
