Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades has taken a leave of absence from the university and has also stepped down from his role on the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. His departure comes amid ongoing investigations and newly surfaced allegations.

“New allegations surfacing this week regarding Baylor AD Mack Rhoades are related to a violation of the faith-based university’s policies and practices,” according to Ross Dellenger.

Dellenger also reported that the investigation remains ongoing, and Baylor has declined to comment on the matter.

The university has not provided a timeline for the inquiry or any details regarding the nature of the allegations.

Baylor is declining comment as this involves a “personnel matter and an on-going investigation.”

Rhoades was involved in a sideline incident with Baylor tight end Michael Trigg during the Bears’ Sept. 20 matchup against Arizona State. However, it remains unclear whether the incident is directly tied to his decision to step away. The university has not confirmed any link between the two events.

With Rhoades stepping down, the CFP Selection Committee went down to 11 members. With the regular season winding down, the committee enters a critical stretch of the selection process.

Utah athletic director Mark Harlan has been linked as a possible replacement, with the Big 12 reportedly advocating for his inclusion.

Baylor’s football program currently holds a 5–4 record and is set to host No. 13 Utah on Saturday.
