At Heartland College Sports, we’re kicking off something new. Every week, we’ll take a look around the Big 12 and spotlight the fanbase that had the funniest, most chaotic, and flat-out best week online. It’s a chance to celebrate the side of college football that makes this sport different from anything else: the memes, the reactions, and the passion that never takes a bye week.
For the first installment, it had to be the Oklahoma State Cowboys. With Mike Gundy out and the head coaching job in Stillwater wide open, Cowboys fans had social media buzzing. And by buzzing, I mean they absolutely ran wild.
Every corner of X was flooded with memes about the coaching search, ranging from wishful thinking to flat-out ridiculous suggestions that only diehard OSU fans could deliver with a straight face.
What stood out most wasn’t just the volume of content, but the tone of it. Cowboys fans managed to take a week filled with tension and uncertainty and turn it into a comedy show the entire Big 12 could enjoy.
From the sarcastic calls to bring in legends who have no business in Stillwater, to the picture-perfect memes about the search dragging out, it was pure gold. The posts were viral, hilarious, and most importantly, they felt uniquely Oklahoma State.
That’s precisely why the Cowboys earn the title of Big 12 Fanbase of the Week. It’s not about being the loudest; it’s about owning the moment and reminding the rest of the league why your fanbase belongs in the spotlight. And this week, OSU fans did just that. The next head coach in Stillwater may not have been decided yet, but one thing is sure: the Cowboys’ online army has just set the bar high for the rest of the conference.
Here are some of our favorites from the week, featuring Oklahoma State and its incredible fan base.
