President Donald Trump plans to announce Washington, D.C., as the host of the 2027 NFL Draft on Monday afternoon, a league source confirmed.
The president’s official press schedule states Trump will make a “sports announcement” at 1 p.m.
According to Axios, which first reported the news, the goal would be to hold the draft on the National Mall. Axios also reported Washington owner Josh Harris and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell are expected to be part of the announcement.
The announcement will come a week after D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the Washington Commanders will return to the city with plans to build a new stadium at the RFK Stadium site. The Commanders have played in Landover, Md., since 1997.
The stadium plan still needs approval from D.C. city council and would not open until 2030.
The draft was traditionally held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City before the league took the annual event on the road in 2015. Chicago, Philadelphia, Arlington, Texas, Nashville, Tenn., Cleveland, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Mo., and Detroit have all held it since. Last month, Green Bay, Wis., hosted the 2025 edition with, more than 600,000 in attendance across the three days.
Pittsburgh will host the 2026 draft.
Trump, whose relationship with the NFL was at times tense during his first term, previously attended the Super Bowl in February and hosted the Philadelphia Eagles at the White House last week.
