Texas finds itself at No. 1 on the latest college football AFCA Coaches Poll ahead of the 2025 season. With last season’s quarterback Quinn Ewers selected in the seventh round of the NFL draft, the program turns the page to junior quarterback Arch Manning.
The aspirations for Texas this year are clear: an SEC championship and a National Championship. They’re that good. Last year, they fell short in overtime, losing 22-19 to the Georgia Bulldogs in a defensive showdown in the SEC championship.
In the playoffs, they reached the semi-finals, losing to the eventual champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes, 28-14. The Longhorns are hungry once again, posing a serious threat on both sides of the ball in 2025.
Meanwhile, in a recent report, Manning and the offense struggled drastically to move the ball in practice.
Multiple reports were made by NFL reporters Alex Dunlap and Anwar Richardson during a scrimmage on Saturday, highlighting flaws within the offensive line and praising the strong defense that prevented them from advancing the ball.
“There were struggles along the offensive line both getting push on the defensive line in the run game and in pass pro. They are really being challenged by the defense,” said Dunlap.
“The offense could barely move against the defense. When they moved the ball, the defense eventually stopped them,” said Richardson.
As for Longhorn fans, they should be far from panic mode, although it is something to monitor in the weeks leading up to the 2025 season. The official AP Top 25 Poll is set to be released Monday.
