The Texas Tech football team secured the commitment of five-star edge, LaDamion Guyton, per Hayes Fawcett.
Guyton is ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the Class of 2027, per Rivals. He chose the Red Raiders over Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida State and became the second five-star recruit in recent weeks to sign with the program, alongside offensive tackle Felix Ojo (Class of 2026).
The Savannah, Georgia, native will play his senior season with Benedictine Military School after a previous stint with Savannah Christian Preparatory School.
He came onto the scene during his freshman campaign, totaling 82 tackles and 10 sacks, according to USAToday High School Sports.
During his junior season, he recorded an impressive 52 tackles and 6.5 sacks. The 6-foot-3 edge rusher became Texas Tech’s first official commitment for the 2027 class.
The Red Raiders’ defense finished as one of the worst in the Big 12 Conference last season, placing 15th, allowing 34.8 points per game.
Texas Tech still had a strong season in 2024, going 8-5 (6-3 in Big 12 play), which included a 23-22 victory over No. 11 Iowa State.
McGuire and company will kick off the 2025 season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at home on Saturday, Aug. 30.
