The Cincinnati Bearcats just wrapped up a disappointing season under head coach Wes Miller. Miller is finishing his fourth season with the program and with the struggles continuing in Ohio, some are wondering whether or not it’s time to cut ties.

Wes Miller is 80-57 as head coach in four season with the Bearcats, but his conference record is only 32-42. In two seasons in the AAC he went 7-11 and then 11-7 in league play, while his two seasons in the Big 12 have resulted in league records of 7-11 and now 7-13. The Bearcats wrapped up the regular season with a loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday.

What is Wes Miller’s Buyout?

Miller is under contract through the 2028-29 season. If Miller is fired this season after March 31st, his buyout would be an enormous $9.9 million. If he his dismissed after the 2025-26 season, his buyout is cut in half to $4.69 million. That’s an enormous drop at a

Miller has yet to reach the NCAA Tournament with the Bearcats. He made the Big Dance twice in his final four seasons at UNC Greensboro, but has only reached the NIT thus far at Cincinnati, reaching the quarterfinals in each of the last two seasons.

Cincinnati Basketball’s Struggles

UC has not gone to the NCAA Tournament since Mick Cronin‘s last season in 2019. The Bearcats started this season with its highest expectations since the Cronin era. Cincinnati started the season 10-1, but then came Big 12 play when they opened up with an 0-4 start. Cincinnati never got back on track. There was a three-game mid-season winning streak against UCF, BYU and Utah, but otherwise, it’s been a forgettable season for the Bearcats.
