The New Orleans Saints’ offense faces some major questions this season.
With a suspect quarterback room, maybe not even offensive guru Kellen Moore will be able to work his magic as head coach.
Besides that, they also need to make sure to keep Chris Olave out of harm’s way.
The wide receiver has been the team’s lone bright spot in the passing game since he entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but he’s also suffered multiple concussions.
His 2024 season was cut short after getting injured on a route across the middle of the field in Week 9.
He didn’t play for the remainder of the season despite being cleared to return to practice a couple of weeks later.
That was his fourth confirmed concussion in just three seasons in the league.
However, Olave recently said he is not too worried about the potential long-term implications of those injuries.
“They said I was OK back in December when they cleared me. It was just unlucky situations I was being put in,” Olave said. “God’s got me at the end of the day. I’m not worried about nothing. So, just got to go out there 100 percent and be ready.”
Olave’s first concussion came as a rookie, and though he missed two games, he led the Saints with 72 catches and 1,042 yards.
He sustained another concussion in the 2023 season but didn’t miss a game, and he led the team again with 87 receptions for 1,123 yards.
Things got worse last season, as he was forced to miss nine games because of two concussions and finished with 32 catches for 400 yards.
Olave is a special player, but he’s a human being first and foremost, and hopefully, this won’t lead to any long-term issues for him.
