Steelers Are Signing 1 Veteran Wide Receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers are addressing their wide receiver needs through avenues other than the 2025 NFL Draft.

After trading for D.K. Metcalf earlier this offseason, the Steelers are bringing in a veteran who could prove valuable regardless of who wins their quarterback competition.

“Source: The Steelers are signing veteran WR Robert Woods to a 1-year, $2M deal. A new target and big-time locker room presence for … whoever their QB ends up being. The former [Houston] Texans WR lands in a great spot,” NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport wrote on X.

Woods played 15 games for Houston last season, serving as a reliable but modest contributor to the passing attack.

While he’ll likely slot in behind the Steelers’ current receiving options, his role could expand depending on how the rest of the offseason unfolds.

He currently projects as depth behind Metcalf, George Pickens and Calvin Austin III, though persistent trade rumors surrounding Pickens could potentially elevate Woods’ importance in the offense.

His experience might prove particularly valuable if he can find soft spots in coverage while defenses focus on containing Metcalf.

Woods brings impressive credentials to Pittsburgh entering the twilight of his career.

He delivered consecutive 1,100-yard seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and has demonstrated a nose for the end zone with four seasons of at least five touchdown receptions.

His championship pedigree also adds value, having played for the Rams during their Super Bowl LVI championship season.

He also led them in receptions and receiving yards during the 2018 regular season, which was followed by a loss in Super Bowl LIII.
