Expression of Interest for Coaches for the 2026 Masters Outdoor World Cup

Field Hockey Canada is seeking national coaches for the 2026 Masters World Cup to be held in the summer of 2026.

EVENT DATES & LOCATIONS

HC Rotterdam, Rotterdam, The Netherlands22 July – 01 August 2026Tournament 1 (O35/O40) Men and WomenTournament 2 (O45/O50) Men and Women

KHC Dragons, Brasschaat, Belgium6 – 16 August 2026Tournament 3 (55 – O70 Women; O55/O60 Men)

BHV Push Breda, Breda, The Netherlands6 – 16 August 2026Tournament 4 (O65- O80 Men)

Canada aspires to send Men’s and Women’s Masters teams in the 35+ to 65+ age categories. We are seeking coaches for these prospective teams. These are volunteer positions.

Field Hockey Canada is the national sport governing body responsible for the development, growth and promotion of field hockey in Canada. Among its responsibilities, and in collaboration with the FHC Masters Committee and Age Group Coordinators, FHC helps select, prepare and promote Canada’s teams towards the goal of delivering sustained podium performances in World Masters Hockey (WMH) Continental and World Cup competitions.

FHC’s Master’s program is self-funded by athletes selected for WMH Continental and World Cup teams. The coach’s cost of national and international airfares, accommodation at the event and a per diem will be covered from players’ contributions (amounts may be capped). Additionally, coaches will be paid an honorarium for practices, events and tournaments attended. The successful applicants will be expected to select, develop and coach their team in the lead up to the 2026 Masters World Cup.

The coaching positions will commence in September 2025 with some follow up after the completion of the 2026 Masters World Cup.

Coach Responsibilities include:

Oversight of an outdoor, systematic, progressive training program for Master athletes (including mindset/outdoor tactical awareness, skill development and fitness assessment) in conjunction with the Masters Age Group Coordinators.
Team building, selection, preparation and attendance at scheduled training camps, practices, events and tournaments. Key attendance dates/events are listed below.
At the conclusion of each major competition, coaches are also expected to complete a Post-Tournament Report which includes an event summary along with any improvement recommendations.

KEY DATES:

Men: 

Athlete Selection – Athlete selection camps are expected to be held in Vancouver, Alberta and Ontario over two long weekends:

October 11 – 13, 2025; Thanksgiving.

April 3 – 6, 2026; Easter.

Training – Training events will be organized throughout the year by the age group coordinators, team managers and coaches on an individual age group and/or team basis.

Women:

Athlete Selection – Athlete selection camps are expected to be held:

in Vancouver and Duncan over the October 11 – 13, 2025 Thanksgiving long weekend.

In Vancouver over the February 14 – 16, 2026 Family Day weekend

Training – Training events will be organized throughout the year by the age group coordinators, team managers and coaches on an individual age group and/or team basis. This may include participation in the:

Pat Hall Master’s Tournament held on Vancouver Island over the
Vancouver International Tournament (VIT) held in Burnaby, BC over the May 16 – 18, 2026 Victoria Day long weekend.

Athletes unable to attend selection camps in person will be asked to send in video footage along with references from coaches. There will be opportunities for athletes outside of selection cities to gather and obtain video footage of key selection criteria areas:

in Ontario (dates/times TBD)
in Calgary, Alberta (dates/times TBD).

Experience and Qualifications preferred:

The ideal candidates will have experience in high performance coaching, and possess strong consultative, facilitation and decision-making skills and a desire to work with older age athletes.

The ideal candidate attributes and qualifications should include:

Appropriate coach education and certification – NCCP Competition Development in Training (working towards the NCCP Competition Development certification).
NCCP Making Ethical Decisions (MED) and NCCP Making Headway (concussion education).
Strong leadership abilities and experience working with older athletes;
Knowledge of Long-Term Athlete Development;
Canadian Safe Sport Course (CSSP) certificate which must be uploaded to F-RED – https://cces.myabsorb.com/#/dashboard, code for FHC is FLD303
Critical thinking related to fitness program planning and evaluation
A good knowledge of exercise physiology to create an age-appropriate program;
A good understanding of high-performance sport.

Terms and Conditions

The successful candidates will be required to have memberships in good standing with their local PSO and FHC.  They must also provide a criminal record check (dated within the past 3 years) as well as complete Safe Sport training (completed within the past 3 years).

If you believe you possess the appropriate experience, skill set and desire to contribute to the Masters field hockey community, please submit your Expression of Interest (EOI), covering letter and coaching resume via F-RED Coach/Staff.

The deadline for applications is September 19, 2025.

Interviews will take place virtually shortly thereafter for selected candidates. Field Hockey Canada is committed to employment equity and encourages applications from all qualified candidates.
