Marchese: “But man, Alex, Alex DeBrincat back to back, 39-goal seasons. He is, I was looking at this yesterday, this guy has missed four games his entire NHL career.”
a
Friedman: “Yeah, steady guy.”
Marchese: “And he’s working on pretty incredible Iron Man streak. I like, to me it’s, it’s a credit to, he’s a smaller player. Like, it kind of reminds me of Phil Kessel and that Iron Man streak. Phil had different things that people were like, how the heck did he do it? But DeBrincat, like being a smaller guy, he doesn’t shy away. He’s not a guy that is afraid of going into certain areas.
He’s also extension eligible on July 1st. Like, I wonder if Detroit, if they get in, okay, it’s one thing, but if they don’t, I wonder where things head with Alex DeBrincat.”
Friedman: “Well, I think the thing is, like, I don’t know if I wonder that much. Like, the hardest thing to do in this league is score, right?”
Marchese: “Yep.”
Friedman: “You know the first thing you do, I mean, who knows? Like, but the first thing you do when you trade a guy like Alex DeBrincat is, let’s say, Uh-oh, where do we find 39 goals from?”
Marchese: “We look for Alex DeBrincat.”
Friedman: “Exactly.”
Mike Futa: “He loves it there, why would he …”
Marchese: “No, no, look, I’m saying, if they, if they look and say, ‘Something’s got to change here.’ I wonder if that’s the direct(ion), with a guy with one year left on his deal. That’s going to be a big ticket.”
Friedman: “I don’t know. Like, anything can happen, Matt. Like, I like, I’m not coming at this from a place of knowledge, like, I’ve looked into what’s happening with DeBrincat here. But, you know, I think this, like, those guys are hard to find.”
