Rasmus Andersson will be traded sooner than later, and will it come with an extension?
The Chris Johnston Show: Chris Johnston when asked what he’s heard lately on Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson.

Johnston: “I mean, Anderson, it’s so funny, this has kind of been a back and forth at times that maybe he might sign. You know, his name is obviously pretty seriously involved in trade discussions last year in the offseason that didn’t quite materialize.
You know, I do think that the Flames are moving closer to probably finding resolution there, in terms of, you know, sending him somewhere. You know, there’s, there’s risk with the kind of guy is. I mean, he’s, he’s playing hard for anyone watching closely. Like he engaged in a fight in Columbus this week. By the nature of his game, he’s blocking shots and not afraid to get involved physically.

And so I think at a certain point, if you’re the Flames, there becomes the risk. And it’s not just with him, but when you, when you have a pending UFA, if he suffers a significant injury, I mean, you end up potentially not getting anything. And so you know that one that seems like a situation that’s going to come to a conclusion sooner than later.
You know what’s interesting with Andersson is, do they find him a place where he’s willing to sign an extension and sort of build that into the price of what they’re getting back?
Is that, is that a smart thing to do? It can be more complicated. You’re involving giving the other teams permission to talk to the agent. Maybe they can’t reach the deal they want. Then does that blow up a trade?
It’s certainly a little cleaner and easier just to trade them as a UFA, but then you’re probably not getting as much back. So that’s something for Craig Conroy to navigate because it’s, you know, it’s not believed that Rasmus is going to just sign anywhere in terms of, you know, long term into the future.

So, you know, we’ll see how that all goes down. But I think, you know, certainly he’s a player that could see a move sooner rather than not.
