NHL Rumors: No Hot Seat, New York Rangers, and the Vancouver Canucks
As Rick Dhaliwal mentioned last Friday on the Donnie and Dhali show, the Sharks were a team to keep an eye on because they had the assets to make this deal with the Canucks. San Jose has the cap space to extend him.

Activity surrounding Sherwood had picked up over the last couple of days. Late Monday morning, Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period confirmed Dhaliwal’s report that the Canucks had dropped their price on Sherwood. He noted that the Canucks had dropped their asking price for Sherwood from a first-round pick plus.
Hearing trade talks involving #Canucks F Kiefer Sherwood continue. Per sources, Vancouver’s initial ask of a 1st+ is softening, which may now get things going sooner than later.

The Sharks are betting on themselves this season as GM Mike Grier was put into a position to add with his team in a wildcard position. They get the Canucks’ leading goal scorer, Sherwood, who has 23 points (17 goals and six assists) in 44 games this season. However, he remains out of the lineup due to an injury, and it is unclear when he will return.
Kiefer Sherwood, acquired by SJ, is a utility winger who hits everything that moves, forechecks and battles like a man possessed, and has an effective shot. Has also flashed good hands and some passing skill. Not a playdriver but could be a complementary middle-six player. pic.twitter.com/ipvKvGZqRI

As for the Canucks this is the first trade in the rebuild process following the departure of Quinn Hughes.
Canucks GM Patrik Allvin said in a press release: “We would like to thank Kiefer for all his hard work and dedication in Vancouver. As an organization, we take a lot of pride in giving him the opportunity to grow and excel as a player. Given where things currently stand and the direction of our rebuild, we felt it was necessary to make a move like this as we continue to build our pipeline. In addition to adding two draft picks, Cole is a right-shot defenceman who will report to Abbotsford.”
The Vancouver Canucks are not finished as they continue to take calls on Elias Pettersson, Conor Garland, Jake DeBrusk, Evander Kane, and others. Vancouver continues to want to compile draft picks and young players over the next couple of seasons.
