The Australian Open rolls into the semifinals with Jannik Sinner still the odds-on favorite to win his third consecutive men’s title. Sinner defeated American Ben Shelton to secure his quarter of the bracket. Top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz advanced against Australian Alex de Minaur. Sinner will now face 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic while Alcaraz takes on last year’s finalist opposite Sinner, Alexander Zverev of Germany.
Aryna Sabalenka remains the favorite on the women’s side after a runner-up finish to Madison Keys last year. She will face Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina in her semifinal match.
Of the four Americans to advance to the quarterfinals, it was Jessica Pegula who emerged, defeating countrywoman Amanda Anisimova. She will now play No. 5 seed Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan to try to advance to her second Grand Slam championship match.
The women’s singles final will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31, while the men’s final will be settled Sunday, Feb. 1.
