Caitlin Clark made sure to have Aliyah Boston’s back after Angel Reese showdown

Aliyah Boston had Caitlin Clark’s back when Angel Reese came to confront her in Saturday’s game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky, and after the game, Clark showed the camaraderie was mutual by volunteering to pay Boston’s technical foul fine for intervening.

It all started when Clark committed a foul on Reese (later upgraded to a flagrant) to prevent a layup attempt. Reese took exception to the play, and Boston jumped in between her and Clark as the latter walked away, leading to technical fouls for both of them.

In the Fever’s postgame media session, both Clark and Boston only found out the latter had gotten a technical live at the podium, and Clark immediately offered to take care of it for her teammate:

Also, Aliyah Boston is in shock she got a technical foul as she only just found out during the presser. Clark said she would pay for the fine on that one https://t.co/gvjPZzeVGw

For one thing, Boston’s reaction in the video above to finding out she was about to have to pay her bosses $200 is the most relatable thing I’ve ever seen. She honestly deserves credit for not blurting out “what the f***?” directly into the mic, because I definitely would have.

This is a nice gesture from Clark, though, because even though both she and Boston are both making just a little more $75,000 this year in WNBA salaries, it’s safe to say Clark — who has a deal with Nike worth a reported $28 million, plus a cadre of national endorsements that have seen her appear during seemingly every commercial break going back to her college years — can more than afford to pay $200 to thank her co-star for having her back. It may be a drop in the bucket financially for her, but it’s still a great move that would definitely raise her teammate grade on NBA 2K.

It’s also just the latest instance of a burgeoning chemistry between two players the Fever hope will continue to grow into a lethal offensive pairing for them this season.
