Heading to Bologna for Davis Cup – Tennis Now

Carlos Alcaraz played the second set of his ATP Finals loss to Jannik Sinner with his right thigh taped up.

In the aftermath of his 7-6(4), 7-5 loss to the second-ranked Sinner in Turin today, Alcaraz said the leg issue wasn’t a contributing cause to his defeat.

The world No. 1 said he also plans to travel to Bologna in the hopes of representing Spain in next week’s Davis Cup Final 8.

“In general, I think it was a great plan that I did today,” Alcaraz told the media in Turin. “That’s why I’m really happy with the level and the performance that I did today, because I think I did not toomany things wrong, which is great.

“But yeah, the Davis Cup, yeah, I’m heading off to Bologna tomorrow.”

Captain David Ferrer is aiming to lead Spain to its seventh Davis Cup championship and first since 2019. Spain is set to play Czechia in the Davis Cup quarterfinals on Thursday, November 20th, so Alcaraz has three days to recover.

Reigning US Open champion Alcaraz seemed to strain his right hamstring lunging for a return. Prior to the start of the second set, Alcaraz called for the trainer who taped up his right thigh.

Afterward, Alcaraz said he adopted a more aggressive approach to the match, not because of his injury, but because he felt a change was necessary at that point in the match.

“Well, I didn’t change the plan because of the injury,” Alcaraz said. “I change it because I felt that I hadto do something else. I’m trying to be as aggressive as I can on court every match, but especially I think even more. against Jannik. Every time that I can, just trying to go forward.

“It works, to be honest, because I was a break up. I was serving well. That game I think was 3-2, I don’t remember actually, but in the middle of the second set, I was up in the game. Few mistakes that I didn’t have to do it, to be honest.”
