Plymouth fans hit back after the club CEO issues a message following relegation from the Championship for the 2024/25 season.

In summary, he says that the football club is disappointed but not surprised by their relegation, despite valiant efforts from Miron and his staff.

The club remains committed to returning to the Championship, acknowledging that setbacks are part of the journey.

They are pursuing additional investment to support their goals and have a plan to return to the Championship quickly. New structures within the football department are being finalised, and experienced external support is aiding recruitment for a summer rebuild.

While contract extensions with current players are complicated by the relegation, the club is focused on building a competitive squad.

The club expresses gratitude to their loyal fans, “The Green Army,” for their unwavering support and vows to learn from this season and come back stronger.

STATEMENT:

A Message From Chief Executive, Andrew Parkinson

Today’s outcome is not one we are happy about, but given the situation we’ve been in over recent months, it is not unexpected.

Miron and his staff have done a valiant job since they arrived of trying to stave off relegation but unfortunately the task has been too big.

The football journey is rarely linear. There are always setbacks to overcome.

It is about how you deal with those and move forward again, and we will be doing everything in our power to make sure we do that.

Our mission hasn’t changed. We want to be able to compete in the Championship. We think we can do this, playing in a different way, which we have seen can be effective over the last 20 games, but unfortunately – we ran out of time.

We have spoken openly that to have the best chance of achieving our mission, additional investment is required to support the existing shareholders and this is something we continue to work towards. We will be able to provide a fuller update on this in due course.

We are always prepared for every eventuality, even difficult ones, and rest assured we have a plan on how we aim to return to the Championship as soon as possible.

We are in the final stages of finalising our new structures within the football department and will be able to announce details of this soon.

We have brought in very experienced external support to assist with recruitment operations during this period of transition, they have been working closely with Miron and the wider football leadership team and our summer rebuild plans are in a very good place.

While discussions have taken place with several members of the current squad about extending their time at the club, we recognise that no longer playing in the Championship can add complexity to those conversations. We remain focused on building a competitive squad within that context.

Finally, a message to you – The Green Army – You have never faltered. We never take you for granted and appreciate that you are the bed rock of this football club and always will be. I just want to say thank you for your incredible support.

We will need you there again next season, and the following season, and so on. And we know you will be.

We’re sorry that this has happened but we will take the learnings and come back stronger.

We will be better for this season’s experience, and we will bounce back.

Andrew.

A very late goal for Leeds meant Daniel Farke’s side secured the Championship title, with Burnley as runners-up and level on 100 points. It also meant confirmation on relegation for Argyle.

Plymouth Argyle head coach Miron Muslic told BBC Sport after the game:

“I am proud, very proud.

“We faced today by far the best team in our competition, the champions. We were relegated since last week and still showed this kind of performance to make it very difficult for Leeds to break us – it shows the good spirit and character of the lads.

“Our obligation today was to give it all, we played for Plymouth Argyle, we played for the Green Army and we wanted to reward our fans for the last time with a strong performance.

“The lads went all in and we simply needed maybe just 120 seconds to have a result we deserved. But that’s when you face the champions. They’re ruthless, that’s why Leeds are where they are.

“Congratulations for an outstanding season to Leeds, deserved champions and congratulations to my colleague Daniel Farke.”

Muslic also didn’t hold back speaking in the lead up to the game.

Miron Muslic doesn’t hold back as he demands ‘answers’ over Plymouth’s future

As mentioned, Plymouth fans hit back after club CEO issues message following Championship relegation…

@Kenyay: In the name of transparency, who are the external sources we’re working with in terms of recruitment?

@neil_duignan: Investment ‘in due course’…..How long have we been hearing that exactly? From about 18 months ago at least. All words…

@pafcjamess: Unfortunately Andrew, this is on you and Hallett. Should never have hired Rooney with his track record. A competent Championship manager from the off would’ve kept us up, because we do have a squad capable of competing, as shown. Thanks though 👍

@Voodoov21:We didn’t run out of time.We ran out of competence.

@RogGorst2: Most avoidable relegation in our history!! Club has been in decline on the pitch for the last 18 months with very poor recruitment and stupidity. Club is showing no clear direction or ambition to where we go next. Time to sell up @SimonHallett

@LewisAtherton99: No self reflection there whatsoever.

@JoeRendle: Would respect this more if they had come out and apologised for the way the club has been managed in the past 2 years.

@EvanGale5: Stop reading at investment. Probably another lie.

@LeighRapson: Can we have some assurances that we won’t be seeking a new manager in a couple of weeks?

@JacquesHubbarde: Time to go Andrew 👋

@hugegills: For ran out of time please read we appointed the wrong man (again) then failed to sack him quickly enough

@DanCook5: We didn’t ran out of time, the board ran out of brain cells when Rooney walked through the door, as for the bit about investment, well I stopped reading at that point

@BootsHawkins: Resign Parkinson. You have failed to make a correct decision as a CEO in 18 months. Have some basic dignity and apologise and walk away. #pafc

@Aaronpress1: Well, that was one way of answering not a damn thing the fans want to know. Back @MironMuslic, give him the tools he needs to get us where we need to be. DO NOT let him walk over your own inaction. Massively concerned at the managers refusal to say if he’ll be here next season or not. 3.5 year deal, was he sold a lie?

@NinjaMatt77:What does this tell us? This is just waffle with no substanceWho will be the head coach?Where is the investment? How much will it be?Who do we expect to keep?I’ve been an avid fan and someone that has always tried to stay positive, but for fucks sake, give us something! #pafc

@BootsHawkins: Parkinson. I’ve read this back again. The statement is a word salad. What is the message other than a load of waffle. Resign you fraud #pafc

@chrisevs68: Sorry? For the most avoidable relegation in history. You lunatics appointed Wayne Rooney! Too much reliance on Dewsnip unless the story of SH being impressed that he could name the tea lady at Brum is true. Shysters the lot of you.
