After 6-1 forward Yvonne Ejim was drafted by the organization less than a month ago, the Indiana Fever have decided to cut Gonzaga’s all-time leading scorer (men’s or women’s) to trim the roster to 12 players. She was taken by Indiana with the No. 33 overall pick in the third round of the 2025 WNBA Draft.

Unfortunately, it’s pretty common for draft picks to soon get released by their teams just based on the limited roster space. There are only 156 spots across the 13 teams.

Ejim played in garbage time during the two Fever’s preseason victories. Against the Brazilian National Team, she contributed six points on 3-for-5 field goals plus a rebound and a steal in 12 minutes. Against the Washington Mystics, Ejim had zero points and two turnovers in five minutes.

She will now most likely look at other professional options overseas. On a more positive note, Ejim will represent her home country of Canada in the 2026 FIBA World Cup. She was on the 2024 Olympic team in Paris.

The Calgary native averaged 20.7 points on a 53.1 field goal percentage plus 9.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game in her senior campaign with Gonzaga. She was named back-to-back West Coast Conference Player of the Year as well as Defensive Player of the Year in 2024 and 2025.
