Meet The Wife Of Kirk Herbstreit (1:13)

Kirk Herbstreit and the rest of the “College GameDay” crew will have an emotional show planned for Lee Corso on Aug. 30.

Roughly two months ago, Corso announced that he was retiring from broadcasting for good. Since ESPN wants to honor the heart and soul of “College GameDay,” he’ll have one last show.

“Lee Corso has developed a special connection to generations of fans through his entertaining style and iconic headgear picks,” ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said. “Lee is one of the most influential and beloved figures in the history of college football and our ESPN team will celebrate his legendary career during his final College GameDay appearance this August.”

It’s only fitting that Corso’s final show will take place in Columbus.

ESPN confirmed this week that “College GameDay” will preview what should be an epic showdown between Texas and Ohio State on Aug. 30.

Corso’s iconic headgear segment on “College GameDay” started in October 1996 at Ohio State. He’ll get one last chance to show love to Brutus Buckeye on national TV.

After ESPN announced that “College GameDay” will cover the Texas-Ohio State game, Herbstreit went on social media to share his initial thoughts.

Herbstreit called it the “perfect” setting for Corso’s send-off.

“Perfect setting for one last ride,” Herbstreit wrote on X. “Coach’s ‘First Love’ as he says!!”

Herbstreit has developed a strong bond with Corso over the years, so there’s no doubt he’ll shed a few tears on Aug. 30.

“Coach Corso has had an iconic run in broadcasting, and we’re all lucky to have been around to witness it. He has taught me so much throughout our time together, and he’s been like a second father to me,” Herbstreit previously said. “It has been my absolute honor to have the best seat in the house to watch Coach put on that mascot head each week.”

We certainly hope the “College GameDay” crew has something special planned for Corso.
