On Friday afternoon, Auburn announced that football coach Hugh Freeze has been diagnosed with a “very treatable and curable” form of cancer.
Freeze was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. According to a statement released by Auburn, he’ll continue to fulfill his coaching duties while simultaneously receiving treatment for his diagnosis.
“Recently, Coach Freeze was diagnosed with an early form of prostate cancer. Thankfully, it was detected early and his doctors have advised that it is very treatable and curable,” Auburn said in a statement. “He will continue his normal coaching duties and responsibilities, and with forthcoming proper treatment, is expected to make a full recovery. Coach Freeze is incredibly appreciative of our medical professionals and has asked that we use his experience as a reminder of the importance of prioritizing and scheduling annual health screenings.”
Immediately after Auburn shared this news, college football fans extended their kindest thoughts to the Freeze family.
“Prayers to Coach Freeze and his family this is way bigger than the game of football,” an Alabama fan said in response to the news.
Another person said, “Prayers to you and your family coach.”

“We support you Coach! Prayers,” a social media user added.
“Hoping for the best for Coach Freeze If there’s anyone that can coach through an illness it’s him,” an Auburn fan tweeted.
“Sending thoughts and prayers to you, Coach Freeze. We are behind you as you fight cancer,” another Auburn fan wrote.
Freeze is entering his third season at Auburn. He owns an 11-14 record as the head coach of the Tigers.
