Tennessee football boosted the trenches one week ago in landing four-star tackle Q’Mari Hudson. But now head coach Josh Heupel and company sustained a big College Football Recruiting loss Wednesday. Four-star defensive lineman Kadin Fife has decommitted and reopned his process.
The 6-foot-5, 282-pounder revealed his decision to look elsewhere via Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals. Fife committed back in Nov. 2025.
Tennessee landed the nation’s No. 37 overall defensive lineman for the 2027 class at the time. The Vols also raided the state of Alabama and plucked this talent from the backyard of Auburn and the Crimson Tide.
But now Fife rises as one of the best recruits left for his position group. Georgia is now the trending contender to land him per On3/Rivals.
So officially Tennessee sits at 15 total verbal commitments for the current cycle. The Vols have delivered the reverse of Fife’s decision in building this 2027 class.
Four-star linebacker Kenneth Simon II flipped from Alabama in early June. His high school wide receiver teammate from Brentwood Academy and fellow four-star Kesean Bowman was another flip. Bowman pivoted out of his Oregon commitment in Sept. 2025 and turned to the Vols, making the decision in March 2026.
Heupel and his staff have secured other wins too. Four-star cornerback Dylan Haley chose the Vols over Ole Miss, Auburn and Florida on Jun. 7. Now Fife becomes the most significant loss on the trail for the SEC power.
Meanwhile, Heupel and his team will aim to return to the College Football Playoffs in 2026. Last year’s team went 8-5 overall.
